Eror deleting mailbox database folder .."The action can’t be completed because the file is open in noderunner.exe"

I deleted an exchange 2013 mailbox database from the ecp, I then proceeded to remove the dbase folder and got the error "The action cant be completed because the file is open in noderunner.exe"

Some search on google and I found the proposed solution to "restart-service hostcontrollerservice"

this worked for a few minutes and then the folder returned again. I even tried changing the drive letter and formatting but once I return the original drive letter, the folder returns. I am running exchange 2013 CU7 so NOPE! CU1 is not a fix as I have seen in some posts.

Any idea guys?

Hi,

The noderunner.exe is related to FastSearchIndex file under database folder. These files are locked by noderunner.exe. So the FastSearchIndex can be corrupted on this issue.

Please try the following command to solve it.

Running the V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Installer\installconfig.ps1 script with the -u switch on each host.

Running the V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Installer\installconfig.ps1 script with the -i and -baseport 3800 switches on each host.

If this issue persist, please let me know.

Best Regards.

Thank you for posting this solution, this worked for us.  We are running Exchange 2013 Sp1  We were removing the default databases and we ran into this issue.

Running the V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Installer\installconfig.ps1 script with the -u switch on each host.

Running the V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Installer\installconfig.ps1 script with the -i and -baseport 3800 switches on each host.

The actual command will look like this

installconfig.ps1 -action u

Installconfig.ps1 -action i -baseport 3800
